MARCH for many homeowners means de-cluttering and giving the home a fresh appeal but with National Bed Month in the calendar as well it’s the perfect time to think about getting a proper night’s sleep in your bedroom.
The interiors team at Fultons know that a good night’s sleep is essential for your health, happiness and of course tackling those wrinkles ladies-so sit back and take note of their top tips on improving bedtime.
“On average we spend between six and eight hours in our beds every night – when you do the sums that’s over one third of your life in bed,
In fact, the bed mattress is the most used piece of furniture in any home so it’s really important to pick one suited to your personal needs. The ambience of a bedroom is also key to helping you relax and sleep well.
All too often customers ignore the warning signs that are telling them to replace their mattress. These signs include back pain, worn covers, tired fillings, exposed springs and a lack of support.
The general rule of thumb is to replace a mattress once every ten years but many people tend to ignore this. If you are having constant trouble sleeping- it may be down to the mattress you are lying on!”
A good night’s sleep is as individual as buying a new pair of shoes according to the team at Fultons. No one person is built in the same way and before you attempt to buy a new bed, it’s important to recognise your needs and try different out different mattresses.

Customers can expect to pay as little as £500 for a new mattress and over £2000 if they so desire. But, when you recognise the quality of the mattresses available here- over a ten year period, it is a very affordable option.”
Shopping for a mattress then is a hugely important task; perhaps on the same scale as selecting a partner- after all you are about to spend every night getting comfy with this new purchase.
"Test a range of mattresses to assess them on three levels; comfort, pace and support. If you find one that broadly fits into all of the above then you are on the right track.
A great way to test drive any mattress is with the SLEEP test; Select a mattress, Lie in your sleeping position, Evaluate its support and comfort, Educate yourself on each mattress, Partners should test mattresses together.
You will immediately see if a mattress is too soft or firm by following our fool’s guide- so don’t be afraid to put your feet up and get comfy in store.”
Once you have the ultimate bed ticked off your list don’t forget that your colour schemes can also play havoc with those sleeping patterns.
“Overpowering use of bold colours such as red and black aren’t great if you have trouble sleeping. Black is thought provoking and red tends to raise heartbeat and is daring- so if you aren’t a sound sleeper stay clear.
To create a calming bedroom why not opt for nurturing shades of pink, taupe green, purple or yellow. These can help promote happiness and relaxation. Always stick to the warmer tones within each family and this will create a welcoming atmosphere in your bedroom.
It’s easy to introduce warm shades through accessories and focal points in your room. If you don’t have the budget to re-paint and paper a whole room then candles are a great way to add warmth and sensuality.
Bedding from more unusual brands like Yves Delorme, Olivier Desforges or Gant can act as a centre piece to help create the perfect boudoir."

It has always been our intention to provide an online shopping experience, to match the experience that our customers are used to in-store. We believe this website will exceed the high standards our customers have
come to expect from Fultons.
It has been an arduous task, but the folks at Rumble Labs have proved their worth in guiding us through the design, build and integration of our new website over the past few months. The integration with our central product database will ensure online shoppers have access to the same, vast range of products as they would in one of our shops.
Gathering enough information to put each product online is going to take some time. Therefore the online product range will start small, but will soon grow into thousands of products.
One of the main challenges in putting all of our products up for sale online is shipping. Due to the fragility of a lot of our products we have had to find a suitable solution for carriage, both within the UK and Ireland and beyond. This had to be a hybrid solution and is yet to be fully implemented. We expect to have full shipping solutions in place in January. Currently, purchases can be made online and customers can choose from one of our three stores to collect from. Customers can also call to arrange special delivery if necessary.
If you register as a user on our website you have the option to join our mailing list. This is not a frequent mailer, but we will mail the list periodically with details of special offers, sales and upcoming events. There may also be exclusive special offers for mailing list members only, so register now!
This quarter we will be adding a wedding list system to the website. Soon-to-be newlyweds can create a wedding gift list, add selected products from our online store and invite their friends and family to select from their list and purchase their wedding gifts online.
Our Gift Vouchers have always been very popular. These are now available to buy online of course but currently can only be redeemed in-store. Customers will soon be able to redeem these vouchers against products in our online store.
We recently held our exclusive annual gift evenings in our Belfast shop. We had around 300 people attend altogether, proving to be a great success. We plan to hold more of these events throughout next year, and will soon provide a way for people to find out about and register for our events online.
